Since its founding in 2001, WestLicht has been the central showcase for photography in Austria. The museum brings the great classics of photographic history to Vienna - for example in temporary exhibitions on Vivian Maier, Nobuyoshi Araki, Diane Arbus, Edward Steichen, the Magnum photo agency or the phenomenon of Polaroid. Located among camera stores in the heart of Vienna's photo district, WestLicht also awaits its visitors with a well-stocked bookshop, a museum café and a unique collection of historical cameras, including the only surviving example of the world's first commercially produced camera from 1839, the year photography was born.
